Federal Tax Strike in California NOW

I am not sure about you, but I was always taught that gerrymandering is bad. When the gerrymandering of Texas blew up and Democrats left the state to avoid a quorum, I was not surprised. And when Gavin Newsom threatened to gerrymander Calfornia in responce, I was not surprised. Both of these parties are perfectly happy to subvert democracy to make it easier for a future dictator to seize power. Gerrymandering should not happen, no matter who it benefits.

If Gavin Newsom wanted to actually affect any kind of change, he would call for a statewide federal tax strike. Withholding federal taxes would leech funding from ICE as well as most of the vampiric red states in the Midwest. California has the world’s fourth largest economy, with a GDP of $4.1 trillion. Since all gloves are off in this civil war, economic and capitalistic tools should be on the table.

The power of capitalism is money, and the governor of this state could incentivize state businesses to withhold all federal tax payments until further notice. And honestly, think about this. If the state of California didn’t send so much money out to the rest of the United States, we would already have UBI, universal healthcare, and we would probably be able to help out our close neighbors too.

This is, of course, what I like to call Pirate Thinking. This is unconventional and someone like Getty Heir Gavin Newsom would never think of using a non-showboating tool like this to actually affect change. He thinks that our lives and our freedom and our immigrant neighbors are just props for a political campaign. And that political campaign will never happen as long as kidnapping, gerrymandering, and intimidation are normalized.
